Second time getting the saba combo. It's consistent and hits the spot. The mackerel is perfectly salted and is actually a pretty sizable hunk. It's well worth the cost.

It comes with miso soup, cali rolls, tempura, and salad. The tempura comes with two shrimp pieces and various veggies. It's never overly battered. The cali roll, miso soup, and salad are pretty standard.

The menu is pretty varied and consists of various Korean and Japanese food. Based on my experience, this place is run by Koreans. Oh, and they now have kbbq, but reservations are required.

Overall, this is a great place that's underappreciated (based on how empty it is every time I go). Come show it some love!

This review is for their Korean BBQ, the first one in Spokane at the time of this review. This is exciting and a big deal! So props to them for bringing a new amazing experience!

As a background for those who don't know, Korean BBQ is usually brought out as raw meat so you cook it to your liking on the grill. At Sushi Sakai, the waiter cooks it here for you so you don't need to worry about messing anything up. They use an electric grill as well so it doesn't get as hot as the type fire grills but it's less smoke, which is nice. You're not going to get as many extras as you do if you have KBBQ in Seattle, as a heads up. Here they give you:

    - Edamame as an appetizer
    - Banchan (side dishes) include fish cakes, pickled radish, kim chi (not spicy at all)
    - Steamed egg, rice
    - Meat includes beef brisket, pork belly, and steak (I think it's ribeye)
    - Extra grilled goodies are onions, garlic, two asparagus, mushrooms, zucchini

The meat overall isn't bad, the ribeye was really tender. For those who like pork belly, I like mine crispy so I leave it on the grill a little longer. Brisket cooks quick so that's usually what you'll be eating first as you wait for the other meats. They provide three sauces with you. One is similar to a light soy sauce, another is salt and sesame oil, and the last one is a soybean paste - a sauce that goes well with the pork belly but can be eaten with anything. I like to dip my meat in the soy sauce and then the sesame oil, but that's just me.

For those who never had Korean BBQ, this is an awesome way to get introduced. Having them cook it for you ensures everything is done properly without you worrying about things being under or over cooked.  For those who are familiar, I would honestly hold off until you're in Seattle. I miss the rice paper and salad, which helps bring variety to just eating mostly meat. It's pretty pricy at $60 for two people. I understand being the first, you're taking a risk and you'll have to cover the initial costs, as well as trying to survive as people slowly learn about this new offering. So that's why I'm giving 4 stars instead of 3 stars since price is going to be an exception in this case until there's more interest and hopefully more competition.

There's only 2 grills in the restaurant and is reservation only. My gf and I felt pretty content after but you're not going to be gut busting fool. I think for $60 I wish there was dessert or even a pillow mint! But in all seriousness, it's definitely worth trying and judging for yourself. If you've never had Korean BBQ, you need to try it!

I ended up here because it was a Friday night, everywhere was busy, and a family member had recommended the place. I got a to-go order and it was done exactly in the time they had estimated me. The lady I spoke with on the phone was nice and answered all my questions. I got a bento box which ended up being a lot of food. The california roll was awesome, as was the miso soup and tempura. The eel was okay. The pricing was average. I'd come back to try it again.

Not only were all three of my parties meals served to our table ten minutes apart, we had to ask for our tea 3 times before it was brought to us, unseeped, with a broken seeper in the tea pot so all the leaves just spill into the cup.  The seafood ramen had large bits of mystery red meet, the muscles still had moss and seaweed attached to them.  The shells when scrapped with a finger showed it was caked with dirt, bits of dirt were evident in the broth.  Shrimp was clearly reheated in a microwave, cold in the middle but warm on the outside.  The octopus, on the other hand, was horribly over cooked and basically inedible.  Service was poor, as I mentioned none of our meals were brought out together, and we had to ask a The waitress multiple times over the duration of our stay for the tea we requested for upon sitting down.  Don't eat here unless you like mystery meet and chunks of debris in your soups.  Fucking gross, clean your ingredients.
